Description
I made this piece in honor of Maurice Sendak, who passed away today from complications surrounding a stroke. He was 83. He was, and remains, one of my favorite authors and illustrators, and his impact on my childhood was tangible.
As you may be aware, Sendak was a rather ornery old man, with a fabulous wit and sense of humor, and as such I couldn't imagine him "resting in peace;" rather, he seemed the type who would like to be, "Where the Wild Things Are," full of imagination and creativity.
I tried to draw this in a way that was both true to the book and also allowed my own style to show through, so I hope I was able to accomplish that.
Since this piece is in honor of Sendak, I'm allowing this to be downloaded, but please restrict use to personal purposes only. I hope you all enjoy this drawing and your reminiscences of how Sendak's work may have added dimension to your childhood.
